PRiMO Events

Thank you for your active participation at the 10th PRiMO Pacific Partners Meeting.  We had 175 participants in attendance, and welcomed more than 80 new people to the ‘ohana.  It was an exciting 3-days that allowed us to reconnect with our old friends and partners, meet and share with our new members, and collectively chart a course forward. 

We would like to acknowledge all of the sponsors and contributors who made this year’s PRiMO meeting such a success.  Mahalo nui to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S Geological Survey, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, University of Hawaii Sea Grant Coastal Storms Program, Pacific Disaster Center, University Corporation for Atmospheric Research - Joint Office for Science Support, and Dewberry.  We look forward to continuing the dialogue through the year, and seeing you the week of March 17 – 22, 2013, on the Big Island of Hawai’i, the venue for our next partners meeting. 

PRiMO Leadership and Partnership Awards

The PRiMO Navigators are proud to announce the winners of the 10th Annual  Pacific Partners’ Meeting PRiMO  Partnership Awards. The PRiMO Partnership Award is given to indivuduals and groups who exemplify the spirit of partnership through their commitment to collaboration.

PRiMO would like to recognize Timothy Manning of FEMA as a PRiMO Partnership Award Winner. Mr. Manning has demonstrated strong leadership and a commitment to partnership and collaboration across diverse agencies and organizations involved in disaster risk reduction.  He has supported the development of training and educational efforts related to preparedness with a particular focus in the Pacific region.  He has been instrumental in delivering preparedness training programs in the Pacific region, working to build relationships in New Zealand, Japan, American Samoa and other communities in the Pacific that have experienced recent disasters.  Mr. Manning has played a key role in ensuring strong federal presence and support of APEC related training and partnership activities in Hawaii and in the region.  He brings genuine interest in the science of hazards as well as a strong commitment to innovation and enhancing preparedness across the whole of society.  

PRiMO would like to recognize Quince Mento, retired, formerly of Hawaii State Civil Defense as a PRiMO Partnership Award Winner. Mr. Mento  has been a model partner and leader that is exemplary of PRiMO's principles. During his three and a half years at the helm of HCD, he made major improvements to the County's notification system, communications technology and relationships with partner agencies.

Finally, PRiMO would like to recognize the American Samoa Tsunami Study, comprised of Athline Clarke and Tom Smith of the Army Corps of Engineers, Evelyn Vaitautlou-Langford, the American Samoa Governor's Representative, and Tom Fee, of EA/HHF Joint Venture. The American Samoa Tsumami Study was a model in collaboration and agency involvement with the goal of strengthening American Samoa’s ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from tsunami hazards.
